Why are girls of color… • overly-disciplined through suspensions, zero tolerance and arrests in school? • incarcerated at the highest rates in history? • disconnected from family & community? • over-sexualized in the media? • harmed by abuse, trauma, and violence? • trafficked and sexually abused?
Join us and hear cis and trans girls explain #whywecantwait.

On Tuesday, October 14, join ROC-United, Saru Jayaraman, Eve Ensler, and One Billion Rising in a National Day of Action for ONE FAIR WAGE and an end to gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the restaurant industry.
Join Us in NYC and around the U.S. for the One Fair Wage National Day of Action!
Join Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC-United), Eve Ensler and One Billion Rising: Revolution and rise for a fair wage. In today’s economy, families depend on both men and women to make ends meet. Corporations have stacked the deck against us, raking in profits while we struggle with increasing costs and jobs that hardly pay the bills. Women are at the core of the modern economy, but families can’t prosper as long as our laws about work and family are stuck in the past. Our mothers, sisters, and daughters deserve full and fair opportunities to succeed, just like our brothers and sons. It’s time to update our economy to make it work for women and their families, not just for rich corporations. Our families, our economy, and our country depend on it.
On Tuesday, October 14, Join ROC-United, Eve Ensler, and One Billion Rising in a National Day of Action for ONE FAIR WAGE and an end to gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the restaurant industry.
The action will include a flash mob of dancing servers, worker stories from ROC members, and an opportunity for others to share their stories and experiences in the industry.
Join Us for the One Fair Wage National Day of Action!
One Billion Rising Global CoordinatorsAnne-Christine D’Adesky and Kamla Bhasin writes to us from One Billion Rising: Revolution launch events in Haiti and Nepal:
“Vaginas In The Haitian Parliament!” by Anne-Christine D’adesky, Haiti
Today was a historic day for Haiti and for the groups in the One Billion Rising for Revolution movement in and outside Haiti. We hosted The Vagina Monologues in Kreyol and French by the talented performance group Theatre Atelier Ecolosion, led by Florence Jean-Louis and the superstar actors Cynthia Jean-Louis and Ange Bellie Andou — great talents and sexy performers — and also Fabienne Colimon, et Huguette Saint Fleur. Eve Ensler was the special guest of this event hosted by Senators from the Parliament and joined by Deputys. We had a packed house, and a very appreciative audience. For many, it was the first time they had heard such positive, open discussions of women’s sexuality and desire, and it was a most welcome one. The men of the Parliament warmly embraced the play, the themes and the cause of the One Billion Rising Revolution, and have proclaimed themselves strong allies ready to do their part.
One in three women on the planet is violated, beaten or raped
This is one billion women!!
It is the biggest war ever and it takes place within our homes and communities.
Patriarchal structures and mindsets are responsible for this war on women. In addition, we now have modern, capitalist patriarchy, corporate media, mindless consumerism, cosmetic industries, and garish weddings with exorbitant dowries that objectify women and girls on the one hand and make our boys and men violent and greedy, on the other.
Last year together we brought One Billion Rising for Justice to communities and events worldwide! This year’s theme, ONE BILLION RISING REVOLUTION, is a call to focus on revolution and change as an escalation of our demand to end violence against women and girls once and for all.
ONE BILLION RISING REVOLUTION is an energy, a platform, a global movement, a catalyst, a worldwide decision to end violence against women, a demand for justice, a paradigm shift, an invitation, a gathering of the ready, housed everywhere, housed in our hearts, you, us, REVOLUTION.
With the tagline “Drum, Dance & Rise,” Risings will focus on highlighting, creating and envisioning new, brave and radical artistic initiatives to bring in the new revolutionary world of equality, dignity and freedom for all women and girls.
V-season is now open for registration!
The 2015 V-Season will be a transitional year, during which the structure of the V-Day campaigns will begin to shift to an even more autonomous, activist based model.
2015 productions of “The Vagina Monologues” will be held during the month of February, and if you wish to perform the play in other months, you may purchase the rights from Dramatists Play Service.
By focusing the benefit performances during one month – February – we maximize the impact. Beginning in 2016, “The Vagina Monologues” will be available free of charge to registered activists, every year solely in the month of February. These productions will continue to raise money for anti-violence work, and support and guidance will come from a strong network of fellow activists. In 2016 and beyond, those wishing to present “The Vagina Monologues” outside of February will purchase the rights through DPS.
V-Day’s energy will channel into One Billion Rising. Revolutionize your art and activism by creating your own OBR events, which can take place any time during the year.
Please head to the V-Spot to get registered for your February event. We understand that many of you may have already secured venues for events in March or April of 2015. If this is the case, we are happy to make an exception for you for the 2015 V-Season. As always, please let us know at campaign@vday.org if you have any questions.

Now that we have brought the issue of violence against women and girls front and center, now that we have pushed our justice issues forward, we are not waiting anymore, this is the time for revolution, 2015 is a year for change.
Only a radical shift in consciousness, and braver, bolder and more creative and determined actions can bring about CHANGE.
ONE BILLION RISING REVOLUTION is an energy, a platform, DRUMMING, a global movement, a catalyst, a worldwide decision to end violence against women, a demand for justice, DANCING, a paradigm shift, an invitation, a gathering of the ready, housed everywhere, housed in our hearts, RISING, you, us, REVOLUTION.
This year we must go further. We must go all the way and make the change.
In conjunction with today’s launch, we are proud to present the next video in our signature One Billion Rising film series.
“One Billion Rising for Justice” is a nine-minute short film directed by Kirthi Nath and featuring footage from 2014 as well as interviews with global coordinators.
We are in the midst of an environmental crisis and the time has come to unite with our sisters and brothers across all sectors to demand a new model of sustainable development, a model that includes safe, people-centered renewable energy systems and reverses our current path of environmental destruction.
On Sunday, 21 September, I am RISING at the People’s Climate March in NYC and I hope you’ll join me!
The March will take place two days before the United Nations Climate Summit, and we need to show the world leaders that we will not stand by while they continue to ignore this crisis.
Let’s help create the Largest Climate March in History!
We’ve seen the power of One Billion Rising to create a global shift in consciousness around violence against women and girls. Let’s use this power to do the same with violence against our mother Earth.
We cannot ignore the historical and interrelated destructive treatment of both women and nature in our current dominator model of societies. The longstanding history of violating the Earth and violating women is deeply rooted in the same problem and societal imbalances. To achieve long term solutions, we will need to deal with root causes and systemic change and this will mean liberating the silenced and oppressed voices of women and nature.
Together we stand for the Earth and future generations. Together we can make our voices heard. Together we can create a revolution.
Details for the meeting point and route below.
With gratitude and love,
Eve
