My sisters and brothers across this aching gorgeous earth,
I write you with the fullest heart– at once exploding and melting. The images of millions of faces and bodies dancing, reaching, bending, ignited with an energy that is sacred and militant, profound and playful, radical and resistant. In you, I see the desire and willingness of a billion souls. I see the radiance of bodies breaking out of the chains of patriarchy, out of the torturous violence of racism and caste and class, out of rapes and beatings, out of slums, out of exclusion, out of intimidation and silencing, out of bondage and devastating loneliness and isolation, out of economic despair.
I see the exhausted bodies of refugees suddenly enlivened as they spin with welcoming sisters in the streets of Europe. I see the Roma women proud and visible leading the dance in Croatia. I see the girls in the learning center of Kabul moving their bodies to the sounds of reclamation, taking their city and beings back from imperialist invaders and senseless wars. I see the women in Tacloban, survivors of storms made from greed and plundering, rising for climate justice. I see the worried bodies of the indigenous Lumads rising in tribal militancy in the square in Davao City. I see how their dance is the dance of our beginnings and as they dance, refusing to be moved from their ancestral lands, we are all lead back to ourselves and to protecting the earth.
I see the dance that will never let us forget that “Black Lives Matter” and how when we Say Her Name with our voices and memories it becomes impossible for the police to murder and disappear Black women. I see the bodies of women in wheelchairs who will not be stopped by prejudice or indifference. I see the insistent brave gender fluid dance of gay, bi, queer, and transgendered women and men and persons. I see hundreds of cities in Italy, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Germany, and the Philippines rising, one after the other, burning fires across countries and culture. I see the unstoppable dance of youth refusing to inherit a world of hatred and cruelty, their dance that knows education is a right and their strong bodies settling for nothing less. I see radical Artistic Risings in Delhi, Dhaka, Oakland, Atlanta, Santa Fe, San Francisco, London, and Guatemala City…

Rising for Revolution Across the Philippines!

The 2016 OBR tour continues as Eve and Monique RISE with local organizers and grassroots activists in cities and regions across the country.
In Tondo, they rose for Life & Livelihood, demanding and end to violence and poverty and against the new coal factory that is dumping in the area, further endangering residents. In Tacloban City, they rose for justice for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan and for Climate Justice. In Davao City, they are rose for Lumad rights, rose against militarization, against mining & environmental plunder, and against political oppression and killing. The Mindanao region of the Philippines is rich in natural mineral resources, making it the target of large scale mining international companies who are plundering and pillaging these rich bountiful land of gold, copper, nickel and chromite – displacing thousands of Lumads from their ancestral domains, and harassing, oppressing and killing them under the Philippine Governments Oplan Bayanihan operations. The OBR Davao event had the participation of multi-sectoral grassroots communities – workers, urban poor, peasants, teachers, students, women’s groups, community groups, families of migrants, LGBT groups, groups for the rights of sex workers, and Lumad communities who are currently displaced because of militarization and living in evacuation camps in the city.

Leading up to One Billion Rising: Rise For Revolution 2016, Eve has just released her latest piece. Activists around the world will read it at One Billion Rising events and V-Day benefit performances.
RISE DANCE DISRUPT!
I think we must live now on the edge of incomprehensible madness, refusing to give up and refusing to pretend. Dancing on the precipice of annihilation while passionately encouraging and welcoming the new paradigm. This is most difficult in a world, in a system that has thoroughly indoctrinated us in a refusal to think, in the sound bite, in yes and nos, likes and unlikes, with us or against us pathology, in idiotic, consumable brandable, reductionist absolutes. To be an enthusiastic absurdist requires embracing ambiguity, insecurity, and it means looking at the predicament we are in head on. It means leaping and assuming you will fall, dancing in the chaotic impossible passionate possible.
So we must learn the art and practice of disruption. We must release the tentacles of our false securities and interrupt the world as we know it. We must assume that anywhere we live or anything we are doing can change or disintegrate on a dime and we must practice changing and letting it go. Living as if there is no future but the one we are creating. Nothing guaranteed but our willingness to live as pioneers of a new consciousness and way. And we must become disrupters. That is the power of creative resistance. Interrupting business as usual, taking stands that forfeit our acceptance or economic elevation, risking disapproval and controversy, participating in actions that loosen our grip on the suicidal givens and push the tyrants to fall. Disrupters, fighting and dancing with all our might for life over comfort.
– Eve Ensler

Dear V-Friends & Risers,
2015 was a revolutionary, evolutionary year for V-Day and One Billion Rising. Your solidarity and support made it possible!
Activists worldwide called for system change towards ending violence against women and girls. They staged plays, risings and events, rose in the streets, changing laws, consciousness and culture with an impact that is breathtaking and powerful.
It is our honor to share the 2015 Annual Report. These pages are a snapshot of those global activities and an invitation to join us in 2016.

This year, our V-Day campaigns expanded the dialogue around sexual violence as activists raised funds and awareness through performances of The Vagina Monologues and A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer from a prison in upstate New York to a theater in Tehran. The plays catalyzed important conversations and inspired new works of art.
City of Joy and V-World Farm continue to blossom and grow in the Democratic Republic of Congo, transforming pain to power amidst ongoing conflict in the region. The farm is going even deeper, transforming pain into planting, healing the body and the earth.
In its third year, One Billion Rising called for Revolution, to escalate tectonic global change. It was stunning to see how the call resonated around the world. Never have we seen such diversity — children, men, older people, LGTBQI, religious leaders, people of all abilities, farmers, workers, NGOs, presidents and prime ministers. Never have we seen such creativity; the movement continues to been led by art, theater, music, dancing, poetry, drumming because that is where revolution is activated.
The report is available in an interactive online format.

V-Day is shocked and outraged to hear of the alleged sexual misconduct of the President of Fitzgibbon Media. We stand with the women who have come forward and will continue to fight with them for a safe and equal workplace for all women where these kind of abuses no longer happen and perpetrators are brought to justice.
